Magazine
For my magazine front cover and contents page I will use
media language to create synergy across both magazine covers and contents
pages. This will give my brand its own identity which will help it to achieve a
sophisticated audience of ages 16-26, with a class AB demographic. I will
maintain Bauer’s expectations by having a gap in the market and a unique
selling point. This is due to the fact that my magazine promotes the LGBT
community. It will do this by using both male and female models and using a
neutral colour palette. It will further use a typography that covers both
genders. The name of the magazine is ‘Pride’ to highlight the unity and
confidence that our magazine provides through fashion. It promotes the meaning
of being not only proud of your fashion, but proud of your sexuality too. I
will feature shots with just a female, and just a male on their own. Yet, I
will also feature a two shot to help promote my message. In terms of
representation, one cover will feature a white British male, and the other will
feature a Persian female. Both models will be teenagers aged 17-18 to fit in
the target audience category, as people will want to buy a magazine with
someone a similar age to them on the front covers. The different ethnicities
and genders cover the brief as you need ‘two social groups ‘to be represented.
Both of my models will include shots gazing into the distance, out of frame and
also direct gaze straight into the camera lens. The direct gaze implies
confidence about their fashion and their own identity. The layout of the
magazine cover will feature the masthead along the top of the page, the cover
lines around the sides and it will be minimalistic, as many famous magazines,
such as Vogue, take the uncluttered approach to appear sophisticated. The
contents page will have a key image along the left hand side, three columns of
contents and a smaller image on the bottom right hand cover of the cover model.
This is due to the fact that I have seen this approach from magazines, such as
Vanity Fair. Furthermore, it will also include the masthead along the top and
the same typography as the cover to create synergy.
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media
theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your
chosen brief?
Pride covers multiple representations which is required in
the brief as I used different genders for my models. To cover multiple
representations I also included a Persian model. My web-page represents Bauer
industry, as stated in the brief, as Pride looks like a magazine that could be
published by this industry. For example, Bella magazine is part of Bauer media,
which is a fashion magazine that targets a young audience, like Pride. However,
this magazine includes an informative front cover which juxtaposes Pride as in
order to fit the brief Pride has to be ‘sophisticated’. I made my web-page sophisticated
my keeping it clear and simple to add a look of elegance. The camera shots of
my webpage consist of long shots in order to show the full outfit to emphasise
the fact that Pride is all about fashion. Close-ups are also used in order to
highlight accessories, such as, jewellery for the web-page. My images range
from deep focus to shallow focus to meet the brief of different settings. I
used the settings of brick walls, yet, I also used the setting of a street in
order to show diversity. The shallow focus is emphasises in the street to keep
the attention on the model, not the busy backgrounds. I also used the setting
of a colourful background as this represents what pride is all about- being
proud of colour and being different. I also have the required, linking page for
my website and the links work. This linking page consists of fashion to
highlight what Pride is about. My website further consists of audio-visual
content of my model. The target audience is ages 16-25; this is shown through
the age of the models and content provided. This age range will enjoy reading
about fashion tips and best sellers of the season.
How do you intend to link your media products to
demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature
of our media production?
My web-page is linked to my magazine by using the same
typography, which consists of a simple, black, block format. The synergy is
also emphasises through the use of models. The same models are used on my
web-page in order to show brand identity. The message that both of my products
give off is the fact that you should be proud of who you are and you can
emphasises this courage through fashion. The colour scheme consists of black
and white, with pops of colour. This is done across both products to reflect
fashion. The idea this connotes is that you can transform a simple outfit with
one colourful statement.
